CO Road Trip Day 6 - Boulder/Nederland

The day before, we had spent some time along Boulder Creek, but on Day 6, we took a little drive through the mountain to follow Boulder Creek up to Boulder Falls.

This was our kind of hike -- short, kid-friendly, and with a waterfall reward!

There were signs posted not to climb the rocks in the creek, but these were on the side and away from the current. We had a snack here to buy us a little more time (Amy and I could just stay and relax by the waterfall for a long time, but the boys are always ready to move on!).

Next, we kept driving on the same road to the quaint town of Nederland.  The drive was beautiful -- giving us glimpses of the snow-capped mountains.

We found a geocache at the welcome sign.

Our first stop was an old train car that had been turned into a donut shop!

The donuts were mini and came with chocolate and caramel dipping sauce (and then sprinkles! That was Cooper's one request).

A short walk through town led us to another geocache by a steam shovel that helped dig the Panama Canal! This helped us picture the steam shovel from the Mike Mulligan book.

Then we headed to the Visitors Center where we purchased a few postcards to send to grandparents and Daddy.

A little covered walking bridge over Boulder Creek!

Giant dandelions!

Next was a cute little nature center.

And finally, the Carousel of Happiness!

When we got home, Aunt Jenny gave us some piƱata cupcakes (with hidden sprinkles inside!). They were a hit!

That night, we headed back to Chautauqua Park, this time with Amy, and ate the rest of the piƱata cupcakes.

Cooper loved climbing this boulder in Boulder!

Another fun playground!

We drove behind this van (and tree) on the way back.

Bath night!

This was Calvin's spot upstairs.

And Carter's spot downstairs.

Calvin liked keeping his hat on top of the spiral staircase pole (the same pole that Cooper put his little souvenir chick puppet in to "hide," not realizing that it would be gone forever).

Mailing our postcards! We sent them all at the same time -- the grandparents got theirs a couple days later, but Daddy didn't get his until we got home.

Another beautiful sunset on our last night in Boulder!

Calvin helped me make our sandwiches for our time on the road the next day.

Loading up the van again...

Saying goodbye to Aunt Jenny and Uncle Dennis
