Lexington Parks - Mapleleaf Forest Park

Mapleleaf Forest Park (3161 Mapleleaf Drive)
Location - off Man o'War, near the old Carmike Theater
Playground? yes
Trails? no
Other? open field

This was probably our craziest park outing. We had had an ice storm, but the roads were clear, and two new winter storms were heading our way during the upcoming week. So, ice picnic it was! We're trying to embrace all forms of weather, but we don't have the best weather gear. Calvin's wearing gardening gloves, and the little boys are wearing socks. There was no place to park on the street, so we parked on a side street. As I pulled the wagon on an icy sidewalk, a woman pulled up next to us to see if we had somewhere to go. I told her we were going to the park (of course!). We had a warm lunch from Wendy's, but the second I spread the French fries out on the towel, they got cold. I hadn't thought about that. The playground was treacherous; the slide was super fast. It was fun to walk on the icy grass.

Trying to get every crumb of that chicken nugget!

This was tricky to traverse, so he slid in his snow pants.

Ready to go back to the warm van!

This is a nice sledding hill (but probably better if you actually have a sled!)

Calvin was hanging onto the back of the wagon, and his feet slid along on the ice.

(Note: We visited all 88 LFUCG parks in the span of a Covid year -- mid-March 2020 to February 2021. These are not meant to be extensive reviews but more a record of our experiences. Eventually I will add hyperlinks to all the blog entries here)
