Lexington Parks - Stonewall

Stonewall Park (3205 Cornwall Dr)
Location - in Stonewall neighborhood, off Wellington Way, near Wellington Park and Shillito Park
Playground? no (but it connects to Stonewall Elementary's playground, which you can visit outside school hours)
Trails? yes (paved and unpaved)
Other? creek, bridges, adult swing, large dirt hill

After we mastered walking to Wellington, we set our sights on the next park down the road -- Stonewall. We LOVE going here! There's a straight paved path that leads past an adult swing and a picnic table and ends at the woods. From there, you can meander through some forest trails. The boys love shimmying up a tall dirt hill. After a good rain, there's a peaceful trickling waterfall near the entrance to the forest. We've seen other kids try to catch crawdads in the creek. We also returned in January and were able to play on Stonewall's playgrounds (there are actually three).

We got smart and finally started packing sandals for some creek-stompin'

The swing! I really like the way this timer picture turned out

They love swinging really high on this swing. Unfortunately, this led to the demise of the beloved blue scooter. It was next to the swing, and when the swing came down on it, the scooter broke beyond repair.

Sometimes we get muddy

He was trying to cover up the "yirm" (worm)

Here's the hill, which actually doesn't look too much like a hill from this angle

There were some great puddles for splashing after a big rain

Nice spot for a picnic!

One of Calvin's creations

We usually see some ducks around this part of the creek

And here's our return in the winter...

Again, I'm a sucker for these types of pictures of all four boys walking a trail

Sometimes, you just have a meltdown in the middle of the forest

No hands!

Here's one playground at Stonewall Elementary

Here's the preschool playground

And here's the "big kid" playground with higher, faster slides

(Note: We visited all 88 LFUCG parks in the span of a Covid year -- mid-March 2020 to February 2021. These are not meant to be extensive reviews but more a record of our experiences. Eventually I will add hyperlinks to all the blog entries here)
