CO Road Trip Day 9 - Four Corners/Cortez

We were down in the corner of southwest Colorado, which means we were close to Four Corners, the only place where four states meet (Colorado, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico)! I had visited this spot when I was living in Colorado the summer of 2006 and knew that my boys would enjoy it, even though it's definitely a tourist trap! There's a $8 per-person entry fee (thankfully, I didn't have to pay for the two youngest), and there aren't even any decent bathrooms. There's even some debate about if this is actually where the four states meet, but all that aside, it is a unique destination.  We parked in "Arizona" and then headed over to the spot.

It wasn't too crowded, but we did have to wait in line. The sign says that you are limited to 3 photos at a time, so we ended up getting back in line multiple times to get all the pictures we wanted!

Each brother in a different state!

Here's Carter in all 4 at once!

And Cooper (who was kind of in a bad mood because of how windy it was)

And Colson...

Here I am with all my boys! I feel kind of bad for our baby in utero that he's not experiencing these places in person. Maybe we'll come back someday!

The monument is definitely in the middle of nowhere!

Carter followed the lines out and is still straddling two states!

They are SO over posing for pictures!

We pulled over for a quick picture with the Colorado and New Mexico signs. This Colorado sign is a bit ironic because in this stretch of the state, it's not very colorful. Overall, though, we've seen many colors of Colorado!

When we came to this sign, the boys started singing the state song "O Fair New Mexico," which is on our road trip mix CD.

When we got back to the hotel, we spent some time relaxing in the pool and hot tub!

Heart shape hot tub!

We rode the glass elevator to pick up some treats from the vending machine!

That evening, we had a picnic at Centennial Park.

They totally just all sat down here together without any prompting from me.

Calvin liked this unique tipsy merry-go-round.

As we were driving around town, we stopped by the church that was the headquarters for our YouthWorks ministry back in the day.  This is where all the teen girls and their leaders slept, where we had our meals and evening services, and where we attended church on Sunday mornings. That blue house (which wasn't blue at the time) was the parsonage where my teammate and I stayed. We nicknamed it "Tumbleweed Cottage" and was much better than sleeping on an air mattress in the church all summer! Ah, so many memories from this place!

(back in 2006, a lifetime ago, when the house was white)

Nearby was a school with a very neat climbing playground. My boys love these! We had driven by it the day before and knew we had to stop!

Colson had a hard time climbing on the ropes. He was a little too small and frustrated that he couldn't keep up with his big brothers.

I love this picture!

We made a Wal-Mart run since we were running low on food and since we never found Colson's other shoe. This was the first time the little boys had been in a Wal-Mart in over two years since we normally do curbside pick-up.

Amy made an awesome burrito dinner for the two of us.  There's a lot you can do with a mini fridge and microwave!

The boys were thrilled to finally have access to a TV, but unfortunately, the building was struck by lightning right around when we were checking in, so the TV wasn't working. So, the boys gathered around Amy's phone to watch Veggie Tales songs. Ha!
