I’ll do a summary for now and then hopefully add more details once we get to Osaka and our lives settle down a bit.
(ha! I’m not one to ever settle down. For example, I had 45 minutes before dinner in the main dining room after a full day out and exploring a port city yesterday, and I still wanted to go off the boat to explore the port just a bit more.)
We hopped on board the Navigator of the Seas on October 2nd and didn’t see any land for days and days until October 14th. But what fun we had! Carter and Calvin lived it up in the teen room and with new friends. Cooper, Colson, and Chance were always on the lookout for plastic ducks on the way to activities, daily ice cream, or meals. Lucas and I had some sort of date every day whether a comedian or singer or a meal together. We had multiple 25 hour days (setting clocks back at night like for Daylight Savings Time but multiple nights in a row) but also completely skipped October 8th when we crossed the International Date Line. We ate dinner every night in the Main Dining Room and spent lots of time with folks from our worldschooling group.
We had three ports in Japan after all those sea days. In Hakodate, we rode a ropeway to the top of Mt. Hakodate. In Muroran, Lucas and I checked the kids into kids club and explored on foot for 6 hours. In Shimizu, we spied Mt. Fuji and rode a bus to a beach and a waterbus back to the ship. And today, we left the ship for the last time :-( in Yokohama. Some fellow cruisers immediately flew back home. We’re grateful that this is still the beginning of our adventure.
We’ve gotten to talk with two Japanese pastors from two very different congregations. We attended two Sunday services on board and one today in Yokohama. And we have seen God at work in connections and circumstances. I’ve kept a list of bullet points from each day, so I hope to share while it’s all still fresh in my mind and heart. We only have 2 full days in Tokyo before it’s bullet train time! Looking forward to unpacking for the next two months and not having to lug around this luggage!
